  2021 LONE STAR CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE PLAYER & NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR: Dillon Sterling-Cole, Midwestern State,...Sterling-Cole became the third Midwestern State player to claim the J.V. Sikes Award as the league's offensive player of the year while also claiming newcomer of the year honors. The Arizona State transfer passed for 2,130 yards with 20 touchdowns throwing for at least 200 yards in seven of his nine games. Sterling-Cole ranked second in the league with 235.4 yards of total offense and second with 236.7 passing yards per game, while leading the league point responsible for.   2021 LONE STAR CONFERENCE OFFENSIVE FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR (COACHES): Jalen March, Midwestern State,...March joined an impressive list of his own as the LSC Offensive Freshman of the Year. Former MSU standouts Vincent Johnson (2015), Jimmy Pipken (2011) and Daniel Polk (2004) also claimed top frosh honors. Polk and Johnson remain second and third on the program's all-time rushing list. March broke out of a running back by committee late in the season to lead the Mustangs with 635 rushing yards. The Fort Worth Seguin High graduate ranked fourth in the league running for 63.5 yards per game and was second with a 5.93 rushing yards per attempt average. March also claimed LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors in the final week of the season running for 158 yards and a touchdown in a league-title clinching 36-30 win over UT Permian Basin. - Midwestern State Football

  2019 ALL-LONE STAR CONFERENCE SECOND TEAM (COACHES): Quinton Childs, Midwestern State, RB, Sr., El Paso, Texas,...Childs ranked fourth in the LSC rushing for 758 yards with 11 touchdowns making the transition from wide receiver to running back prior to his senior season. The El Paso native also caught 18 passes for 160 yards. Childs delivered three 100-yard efforts including a season-high 174 to help the Mustangs to a 14-8 win over UT Permian Basin on Sept. 21. A week prior, he ran for 135 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-27 win over the eventual GLVC champion Lindenwood (Mo.).   OCT 21 LONE STAR OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Triston Williams, Midwestern State, SO, Agricultural Business, QB, Andrews, Texas, Andrews HS,...Williams matched a program single-game record connecting for six touchdown passes to lead Midwestern State to a 70-35 Homecoming win over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at Memorial Stadium. The sophomore from Andrews connected on 13-of-21 passes for 354 yards including two scoring strikes to Tyrique Edwards and Kylan Harrison while hitting Xavier Land and Lazarus Fisher for TD connections in the second half. The performance netted the second-best passing efficiency rating in NCAA Division II this season at 297.8 which is also the best ever for an MSU quarterback. Williams sported averages of 27.2 yards per completion and 16.9 yards per attempt. It was his second consecutive 300-yard performance. - Lone Star Conference Football

  SEPT 9 LONE STAR DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Melik Owens, Midwestern State, SO, Business Administration, DE, Houston, Texas, Cypress Ridge HS,...Owens spearheaded a superior defensive team effort helping No. 20 Midwestern State claim a 33-7 win over FCS Northwestern State Saturday night at Turpin Stadium. The 6-3, 225-pound defensive end from Houston finished with seven tackles including 2.5 for loss and was in on two sacks as the Mustangs limited the Demons to 243 yards of total offense. Northwestern State was coming off of a 483-yard performance in their season opener against UT Martin. Owens combined with Nathaniel Nicolas for a sack midway through the third quarter for a loss of 9 yards before his solo sack for a loss of 7 more yards halted the same drive.
